Cuernavaca On The Road - Hostel in Europe
If you are visiting Mexico City, you may also want to visit Cuernavaca, a very nice city just 45 min to the south by bus. It is were lots of people from the city go for the weekend, since they call it the city of the eternal spring and it is the second city with more swimmingpools per capita in the world, just after Miami. It is located at 1600 m above sea level and has a very privileged weather; since the whole city is set downhill you will find cooler forests in the north and a very tropical climate further to the south.
The city was originally inhabited by the tlahuicas tribe, so you will be able to visit some pyramids near to the city centre. When the Spanish arrived they had trouble entering this land because of the many small canyons (with rivers flowing on the bottom) that divide the city. When the city was taken over it became the favourite place of Hernan Cortes, who led the Spanish troupes to conquer Mexico and established here his weekend House called the Palacio de Cortes. You can still visit this building (just across the city centre), which nowadays is a museum an many other of the haciendas he build further to the south.
Other sights are the Jardin Borda, the Cathedral and many nice restaurants like las Mananitas, el Reposado, Gaia and el Rincon del Bife. Recommended nightclubs are Taizz and Barbazul; recommended Hotels are las Mananitas, Hosteria las Quintas and Argento.
